Description
A small, circular commemorative lidded box, likely intended for pills or trinkets, produced during the reign of King Edward VII (1901-1910). The item is constructed from electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) with applied enamel decoration on the lid. The central motif is a Royal Coat of Arms shield, depicting the heraldic symbols of England, Scotland, and Ireland. This shield is flanked by two white enameled eight-pointed stars containing the initials E and R (Edwardus Rex). Positioned below the shield is a light blue ribbon banner inscribed with the text EDWARD VII. The base of the box is stamped with the letters E P N S within square punches, flanked by a cross and a floral symbol. Below this is the maker’s mark H.C.H, attributed to Henry Clifford Harrison of Birmingham, England.
Condition report:
The box shows signs of age and significant use. There is general surface wear and tarnish to the silver plating across the exterior. The enameled decoration on the lid exhibits visible losses, particularly to the red enamel within the heraldic shield, and minor chipping on the light blue banner. The interior of the box is heavily oxidised and dark in colour.
