Description
A vintage oval metal identification badge, likely for a porter or tradesman. The badge is constructed from a heavy-gauge metal, possibly brass or copper, and features embossed lettering across the front. The text is arranged in three lines: the top line reads JOE, the middle line reads ASSENHEIM, and the bottom line reads ALDGATE. Traces of orange-red paint remain on the initial letters J, A, and A. The reverse of the badge is fitted with a long, U-shaped wire clip attached to the centre, designed for securing the item to a belt or strap. Aldgate refers to the historic ward and street in the City of London, indicating the badge’s likely geographic origin and use within London’s historical market areas.

Condition report:
The badge is in a well-used, weathered condition. There is significant surface oxidation, corrosion, and pitting consistent with age and outdoor use. The original painted highlights are largely worn away, with only small remnants visible. The wire clip on the reverse remains securely attached but exhibits heavy surface rust.
