Description
An assortment of vintage ladies’ powder compacts, vanity cases, and hand mirrors. The collection includes various shapes and decorative finishes, featuring engine-turned gold-tone and silver-tone base metals. Decorative motifs comprise hand-painted and transfer-printed floral designs, embroidered fabric inserts, and mother-of-pearl style finishes. One circular white compact features the promotional logo for the film Dirty Dancing. Embellishments include clear and blue rhinestone starburst patterns, pavé-set rhinestones on a square case, and faux-pearl accents. A notable oval compact is finished in burgundy enamel with a gold-tone leaf motif, and a circular black compact depicts a butterfly with floral accents. The pieces are primarily constructed from brass and chrome-plated steel with hinged openings and snap closures. Several items are in the style of mid-century manufacturers such as Stratton and Kigu.
Measurements: Individual items range from approximately 5 cm to 10 cm in diameter. The collection is displayed against a ruler measuring 28 inches (approximately 71 cm) in width.
Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition overall. Visible surface wear, light scratching, and varying degrees of tarnish are present on the metal surfaces consistent with age and use. One circular mirror appears to be missing its cover. Internal mirrors and powder sifters are present in some pieces, showing typical signs of previous use.
