Description

An octavo-sized hardcover volume of Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler, published by Hurst and Blackett in London. This particular issue dates to the early period of the Second World War, as identified by the rare yellow paper promotional wrap-around band. The band bears the text: 8/6 NET / THE ROYALTIES ON ALL SALES OF THIS BOOK SINCE THE DECLARATION OF THE WAR WILL BE DEVOTED TO THE BRITISH RED CROSS SOCIETY / HURST and BLACKETT / THE BRITISH RED CROSS SOCIETY, flanked by two red cross symbols. The book is bound in the publisher’s navy blue cloth with a gilt-stamped Nazi Party eagle emblem on the front board. Internally, the half-title page is printed with the author’s name and title in a blackletter typeface. There is a dedication page commemorating sixteen individuals who fell during the 1923 Munich Putsch, featuring a printed facsimile signature of the author dated 16 October 1924, from Landsberg Fortress.

Height: 8.5 inches

Width: 5.5 inches.

Condition report:

The interior of the volume shows significant and heavy foxing and brown spotting throughout, which is particularly concentrated on the preliminary leaves, including the half-title and dedication pages. The navy cloth binding is generally sound with minor shelf wear, light scuffing to the boards, and slightly bumped corners. The yellow promotional band is in fragile condition with multiple tears, heavy creasing, and some paper loss; it appears to have been previously repaired with adhesive.
