Description
A set of antique brass postal balance scales manufactured in England. The instrument features a brass balance-arm mechanism supported by a central decorative frame. It is equipped with a circular pan on the left for holding weights and a larger rectangular flat platform on the right for letters or packages. The mechanism is mounted on a shaped mahogany base which includes three circular recessed wells for weight storage. The left arm of the beam is engraved MADE IN ENGLAND and the right arm is engraved WARRANTED ACCURATE. The item is accompanied by four graduated brass nesting weights.

Condition report:
The brass components exhibit surface oxidation and a dark, uneven patina throughout. The rectangular letter platform shows two distinct circular marks of heavier corrosion or staining. The mahogany base shows minor surface scuffs and wear consistent with age, along with dust accumulation in the recesses. The mechanical balance function is intact, though accuracy is unverified. The set of weights is incomplete as two of the three base recesses remain empty.
