Description
This lot consists of two sets of vintage indoor carpet bowls manufactured by Townsend Croquet Limited of Frinton-on-Sea, England. The first set is presented in its original dark green cardboard box featuring gold-tone lettering and a manufacturer logo depicting crossed croquet mallets. This set includes eight black composition bowls, with four featuring red central discs and four featuring blue central discs, alongside a single white jack.
The second set is housed in a non-original cardboard box and includes eight black composition bowls with assorted coloured central discs in white, red, and yellow. Accompanying this supplementary set is an additional white jack, a green circular delivery mat, and a small plastic jar containing a collection of coloured plastic marker chips. The bowls are crafted from a dense black composition material.
Condition report:
The original green box shows significant age-related wear, including scuffing to the corners and edges and rubbing to the gold-tone lettering. The bowls in both sets exhibit signs of previous use such as surface scratches, light scuffing, and minor pitting. The secondary box is a makeshift replacement with general wear and tape repairs. The green delivery mat shows creasing, and the plastic lid of the marker jar is cracked with a piece missing.
