Description

This lot features a trio of brass draw telescopes, headlined by a Britannic 15x single-draw model manufactured by the prominent London firm Broadhurst Clarkson and Co Ltd.

The Broadhurst Clarkson telescope is engraved on the first draw tube with the Britannic trademark in a lozenge-shaped border, B.C and CO.LTD, MADE IN ENGLAND, and 15 X. It is finished with a textured brown leather-covered barrel.

Accompanying this is a large four-draw terrestrial telescope featuring a plain brown leather-covered main barrel and brass draw tubes. No maker marks are visible on this instrument.

The third piece is a modern three-draw telescope with a dark brown leather-wrapped barrel featuring decorative cross-stitching. It is presented with a brown zippered vinyl soft case.

Large telescope length: 55 cm

Modern telescope length: 37 cm

Britannic telescope length: 18 cm.

Condition report:

The brass components across the collection show varying degrees of tarnish and patina consistent with age and use. The large telescope exhibits significant oxidisation to the draw tubes. The leather coverings are largely intact, showing surface wear and scuffing, particularly to the older examples. The modern telescope remains in bright, polished condition. All draw mechanisms are functional. Lenses are present in all three instruments; however, optical clarity and internal condition have not been tested.
