Description

A Victorian English oak biscuit barrel of coopered construction, designed in the form of a miniature cask. The staved oak body is decorated with a central relief-carved band depicting oak leaves and acorns. It is fitted with four brass bands secured by studs and features a blank brass shield-shaped cartouche to the front. The item includes a circular brass lid with a central ball finial and a brass swing handle. Internally, the barrel is fitted with a removable white ceramic liner.
Height: 15 cm.

Condition report:

The brass fittings show signs of oxidation and tarnish, particularly to the lid and the base band. The oak body exhibits general surface wear and minor movement to the staves consistent with age. The ceramic liner is present and intact.
