Description
A decorative photomechanical colour print after Jean-Baptiste Greuze’s composition A Girl with a Dead Canary. The subject depicts a young woman in 18th-century rustic attire, shown bust-length and gazing down at a small bird held in her hands. The print is housed in an ornate oval frame of cast metal with a gilt finish, featuring scrolled foliate, shell, and floral motifs. The reverse of the top decorative crest is cast with the mark MADE ITALY. The frame is fitted with glass and a red felt-covered backing board with a metal hanging loop.

Condition report:
The cast metal frame shows surface oxidation and tarnishing consistent with age. The print exhibits minor colour fading and toning, particularly towards the upper margins. There are small chips to the edges of the backing board beneath the red fabric. General surface wear is present on the reverse and hanging hardware.
