Description
This lot features two nautical-themed brass instruments. The first is a double-sided desk instrument featuring a clock to one face and a compass dial to the reverse. The clock face is set with a white dial, black Roman numerals, an outer minute track, black Breguet-style hour and minute hands, and a red sweep seconds hand. The reverse displays a white compass dial with cardinal and intercardinal points and a 360-degree scale. The unit is housed in a spherical brass case mounted on a flared rectangular pedestal base, topped with a pocket-watch style crown and suspension ring.
The second item is a marine-style gimballed compass. The brass compass is mounted within a gimbal system designed to maintain a level orientation. It is housed in a square hardwood box with a hinged lid, brass latch, and red velvet lining. The compass dial is decorated with an ornate central compass rose and marked with cardinal points, intercardinal points, and a degree scale in each quadrant.

Condition report:
The brass case of the desk instrument shows surface oxidation, tarnish, and light scratches throughout; the clock movement is untested and the compass side appears to be a fixed decorative dial. The gimballed compass shows significant tarnish and a heavy aged patina to the brass; the gimbal mechanism remains functional. The wooden box has minor surface scuffs and age-related wear to the finish.
