Lot 155:
Description
A detailed hand-carved Bone sculpture executed in high relief. The composition features a spread-winged eagle at the crown, positioned above a central female figure with flowing hair and a bare torso. The lower section is entwined by a coiled dragon or serpent, with multiple human skulls of varying sizes interspersed throughout the scene. The carving is dense and intricate, showcasing deep undercutting and textured feathers and scales. The natural porous, cancellous structure of the bone is visible at both the top and bottom cross-sections. A right-facing swastika symbol is carved in relief at the bottom centre of the front face. The surface displays a natural yellowish patina from age and handling.
Length: 11.5 cm
Width: 7 cm.
Condition report:
The sculpture exhibits natural surface yellowing and a light patina consistent with age. The interior porous structure of the bone is exposed at both the top and bottom ends (photo 3 and 4). There is minor surface wear to the high points of the relief carving (photo 1). No significant cracks, chips, or evidence of professional repair are visible.
