Description
A Brass nurse style waist belt featuring a wide dark green grosgrain ribbon band. The belt is fitted with a two-part interlocking cast brass buckle, decorated with an ornate openwork design of foliate scrolls and floral motifs. The fastening mechanism to the reverse consists of a simple hook and loop closure integrated into the cast metal sections. The grosgrain ribbon is of a ribbed silk or synthetic construction with a width suited for a waist sash. There are no visible maker’s marks, hallmarks, or labels on the buckle or the ribbon. A safety pin is attached to one end of the ribbon, positioned through the fabric.

Condition report:
The grosgrain ribbon shows significant wear with visible fraying and loose threads at the attachment points where the fabric meets the metal buckle (photo 2). A silver-coloured safety pin is pinned through one end of the ribbon (photo 2). The reverse of the brass hardware displays areas of oxidation, dark spotting, and surface residue consistent with age and use (photo 2). The ribbon exhibits surface creasing and light dirt throughout the length of the band.
