Description
A decorative cast iron wall plaque of oval form featuring relief-cast lettering and a raised border. The plaque is finished with a cream-coloured background and the raised elements are highlighted in black paint. The central text is arranged in three lines of block serif capitals reading BEWARE OF THE WIFE. The construction includes two pre-drilled circular mounting holes positioned at the lateral ends of the oval. The reverse is plain and shows the characteristic textured surface of the casting process. There are no maker’s marks or inscriptions present on the item.

Condition report:
The plaque shows minor signs of wear consistent with use. There are small chips to the black paint on the outer raised rim and on the edges of several letters, most notably the B and E of BEWARE (photo 1). The cream-coloured surface exhibits minor pitting and small dark specks inherent to the casting and finishing process (photo 1). The metal remains structurally sound with no cracks or losses to the casting.
