Lot 37:
Description
A hardwood apothecary style chest constructed from a dense, reddish-brown primary timber with a lustrous finish and prominent swirling grain. The chest features a complex arrangement of ten drawers in varying sizes, including two wide drawers at the top, a middle bank of three sections featuring two small vertically stacked central drawers, a single full-width long drawer, and a lower tier comprising one large square drawer alongside two smaller rectangular drawers. The drawer fronts are decorated with raised rectangular mouldings and fitted with cast brass hardware modelled as stylized bats and longevity symbols. The drawers are constructed with exposed dovetail joints and secondary timbers of a lighter hardwood. Traditional green, yellow, and orange braided silk tassels are attached to the central drawer pulls. The unit is supported by short, straight legs integrated into the side frame members. The back panel is finished in a similar reddish tone within a framed border. No maker marks or labels are present.
