Lot 39:
Description
A novelty dress cane featuring a polished chrome handle cast in the form of a skeletal five-fingered claw. The talons are positioned to clutch a large, spherical clear acrylic or glass orb. The handle is mounted onto a decorative chrome collar with parallel linear detailing. The cylindrical shaft is constructed from wood with a smooth ebonised black finish, tapering towards the base. The cane is finished at the foot with a chrome ferrule and a textured black rubber traction tip. No maker marks or inscriptions are present on the metalwork or shaft.
Length: 92 cm.
Condition report:
The chrome plating on the handle remains bright but shows light surface scratches and minor pitting consistent with use (photo 5). The ebonised finish on the shaft is largely intact, with minor scuffs and abrasions visible towards the base (photo 1). The rubber tip exhibits signs of light wear but remains functional (photo 1). The clear orb is securely held and shows no significant chips or deep scratches.
