Description
A Gold vanity set comprising a circular powder compact and a rectangular retractable travel hair brush. The compact is finished with a linear engine-turned pattern and features a central octagonal enamel emblem depicting the MG car marque logo in silver over a dark red ground. The interior contains a glass mirror and a white fabric powder puff printed in gold with the name Stratton and the origin MADE IN ENGLAND. The hair brush is housed in a rectangular case with a fine diamond engine-turned pattern and a sliding lid mechanism. The reverse of the case is embossed with a circular emblem containing a crown. The brush consists of white nylon bristles mounted on a retractable plate. An original blue and white adhesive paper label is present on the case, reading Stratton HAIR BRUSH, TO USE WITHDRAW LID • TURN IT OVER, INSERT IN LOWER GROOVE UNDER BRISTLES, TO CLOSE • REVERSE THIS PROCEDURE, MADE IN ENGLAND, and BRITISH & OVERSEAS PAT. Condition report:
The powder compact shows visible surface scratches and areas of minor tarnishing to the gold finish across the lid and base (photo 1). The interior mirror is intact, though powder residue is present throughout the well and on the puff (photo 2). The hair brush case exhibits minor surface wear and light scratches. The paper instructional label shows significant wear, with scuffing to the printed text and lifting at the corners and edges (photo 1). The mechanical sliding action and retractable bristle plate appear functional (photo 2).
