Lot 13:
Description
A commemorative teak barrel-form vessel featuring a dark, polished patina. The exterior is decorated with incised horizontal bands mimicking the appearance of iron barrel hoops. A curved silver plaque is affixed to the centre with two pins, bearing the uppercase inscription FROM THE TEAK – OF – H.M.S. SESAME. The vessel is constructed with a hollowed interior and a recessed inner rim, indicating it was originally designed to accommodate a lid. This item is a maritime souvenir crafted from salvaged decking materials of the S-class destroyer HMS Sesame, which was launched in 1918 and scrapped in 1934.
Height: 8.5 cm.
Condition report:
The item is in fair condition. There are several vertical drying cracks and fissures in the wood, most prominent on the side opposite the plaque (photo 2). The silver plaque shows surface tarnishing and wear (photo 1). The item is incomplete, as the recessed inner rim indicates it is missing its original lid.
