Lot 25:
Description
A collection of smoking pipes comprising various shapes and materials. The assembly includes several briar wood pipes in classic billiard, bent, and Dublin forms, alongside a large tavern pipe featuring a wooden bowl, a metal hinged lid, and a decorative heraldic crest. One pipe features a light-coloured bowl with a darkened rim, and another is carved with a rustic figural motif. A textured rusticated finish is present on two examples. The pipes are fitted with stems made of horn and composite resins, some accented with metal bands. The tavern pipe displays a wooden stem section with a cord-bound joint and a curved mouthpiece. Legible marks include a small M and a number 14 on two separate black stems, while other components bear indistinct stamped characters.
Length: 33 cm.
Condition report:
Significant charring and carbon build-up is visible on the rims and interiors of several bowls. Tooth marks and surface oxidation are present on multiple stems. The tavern pipe shows evidence of repair or reinforcement with cord binding at the stem joint. General surface wear, scratches, and minor indentations are visible across the wood surfaces of the collection.
