Lot 141:
Description
A Second World War period Luftwaffe cloth breast eagle, also known as a Hoheitszeichen or national emblem. The insignia is constructed from a dark blue-grey wool backing, featuring a machine-embroidered eagle in flight in a light grey or off-white thread. The eagle is depicted in the characteristic Luftwaffe style, clutching a swastika in its talons. The embroidery displays the standard droop-tail design associated with the branch’s uniform insignia. The reverse side shows the typical white bobbin thread and stabilizer consistent with period machine embroidery techniques. The backing material has been irregularly trimmed, suggesting the piece has been removed from a uniform. No maker marks or labels are present.
