Description
A Second World War German Luftwaffe enlisted man’s breast eagle insignia. The piece features the second pattern eagle in flight, clutching a mobile swastika in its talons, machine-embroidered in white cotton thread. The eagle is set upon a rectangular black cloth backing. The reverse of the insignia displays the characteristic machine-embroidery bobbin thread patterns typical of period manufacture. The design shows detailed feathering and sharp definition throughout the embroidery. This example appears to have been removed from a uniform, retaining irregular fabric edges and loose blue threads at the upper and lower margins of the backing cloth.
