Lot 49:
Description
A decorative bronze mystery desk clock featuring a heavy glass sphere held within an ornate cast frame. The frame is designed with Victorian-style scrollwork and a stepped base centred by a classical mascaron. Two lion masks with ring handles are positioned at the sides of the sphere, which is topped with a fluted crown and a decorative suspension loop. The cream-coloured dial is set behind the glass and features Roman numerals with ornate openwork hands. Centrally, the dial is printed with the word PARIS in sans-serif capitals, and below the centre, it reads Swit zerland made-1882. The reverse of the glass sphere displays a printed artistic nude study of a reclining female figure rendered in warm reddish and orange tones. The movement is housed within the central metal band of the sphere.
